Another GREAT one!!!

Another 5 ***** book by my homie, Christina C. Jones. I really liked this story because it was a light, fun read. What I mean by light, is there wasn't much drama or dark scenes within the story. Other that Ty and Mekhi's mothers acting a damn fool, this story was fun. Lauren and Ty were a breath of fresh air. Although it took a while for Lauren to stop running from Ty, once she finally gave him a shot, she couldn't keep a smile off her face. I have to say, Ty knew what he wanted and he continue to pursue Lauren until she finally gave in to him. He was very patient with her but it paid off. Lauren had a lot of things going on in her life that many people wouldn't and couldn't handle. Being a mother, working and going to school. I'm sure being separated from her daughter was killing her. Ty had a lot going on too. Namely, dealing with his crazy ex, Jamila. All that drama she caused and for what? She more concerned about appearance and what everyone else thought than she actually loved him. Her crazy a$$ was just as bipolar as Mekhi. Neither one really wanted to be with Lauren or Ty. It was all about appearance with them. Lauren and Ty's story was cool. Like I said earlier, it was a breath of fresh air. Now, I want to go back and read Bianca and Rashad's story again. Bianca showed up and showed out in this one. She didn't hold back when she told Lauren the truth. I loved it. Another great story by one of my favorite authors. Thanks again Christina.

The Trouble is Just Right!

Have I mentioned lately that Christina C. Jones is one heck of a writer? If not, then I just said it again. The Right Kind of Trouble was yet another example of why I love to read romance novels. Christina always gives readers a different story. Her stories are never boring and she gives the readers something to enjoy. Lauren and Ty are the central characters in this story. Lauren was introduced in The Trouble With Us as Bianca's younger sister. Lauren is a 21 year old highly intelligent college senior working on completing her degree, when she started to notice the guy from the library who smelled like books and was smoking hot. Ty happened to notice Lauren as well and sets out to make her his lady. With each of the first few encounters Lauren ran like a track star to get away from Ty. Her confidence level was -500 and counting. Lauren tended to overthink his attraction to her until one day things just started to click.. I liked the flow of the story, as it had a comfortable feeling..a realness. The ancillary characters added some amusement to the story and a few villains to give the story a little bite. Thank goodness Ty was a patient man when he had three women in his life having a field day with his emotions. Read and you will enjoy this latest installment by one of my favorites...CCJ is a magnificent artist, I love the stories she paints with eloquent words.

Trouble has never been better to find!

Study...go to work..talk to Harper...study..talk to Harper..wait sleep. This was Lauren's life. A studious young woman with her head on straight. Because this was what was responsible..safe...and no trouble. But in her pursuit of excellence, she never thought trouble would wake her up..literally. Ty is just the guy to make Lauren break all the rules...even if it means a little heartbreak along the way. Because really, what's a fairy tale without some drama before the HEA?

I throughly enjoyed this book. I'm always amazed at how diverse Christina Jones can be with her story telling ability. She gets better and better with each book she puts out. The plot had a little bit of everything to keep me engaged. The flow was always natural and the pacing just right to set the tone of the story. Her innate ability to create plausible storylines and churn out unique characters always makes for a good read. Though Lauren and Ty kept me entertained, her minor characters were nothing to sneeze at. At one point I even found myself pulling for the other guy vying for Lauren's attention lol. Additionally, The conclusion was fulfilling and totally left me satisfied.

The Missing Manual for Lean Startup and Lean UX Techniques

Jaime defines UX Strategy as "the intersection of user experience design and business strategy" I consider this book the "Missing Manual" for Lean Startup and Lean UX techniques.

I enjoyed reading UX Strategy because of the clear explanations, abundant examples and engaging writing style. It is well researched, current and appropriately credits other thought-leaders in this field. I appreciate the bonus interviews with prominent UX Strategists. It's a nice touch to to include a variety of perspectives on the subject.

This book has long term value because you can read it cover to cover to gain insight into UX Strategy, and later refer back to it for guidance as you work through your own product ideas.

Wonderful book

I am the President for the UX Book Club of LA and out all the books on UX Strategy, this book is the best. Jaime did a wonderful job described the process of creating and validating digital products or services in an easy, fast and fun way. What I enjoyed most was her explanation of tasks and citing relevant case studies from past client she had worked with to make the methodology easier to understand and implement with my own ideas. I have already started using many of the techniques outlined in the book. Simple things that other books just don't have, like how to create an online ad for recruiting off of craigslist and many more. She has also has a UX Strategy Toolkit that gives you access to all the tools used in the book. If you want more than to be a "wireframe monkey", this is the book to get.

Excellent book for beginners or experienced alike

I'm a Web Developer with a lot of experience building websites but not much experience in crafting complex user experiences. I also didn't know the difference between UX strategy and UX design before reading this book, despite having been involved in digital production for about 20 years. By the end of the first chapter however, I already understood what UX strategy vs UX design was all about and felt highly motivated to dig deeper into the nitty gritty of UX strategy, which is really more about the BIG PICTURE involved with designing digital interfaces.

While the first chapter masterfully introduces the concepts of UX strategy and removes all the confusion about various industry buzzwords and lingo associated with UX, the rest of the book gives you the real, bonafide, battle-tested tools needed to apply yourself and become a successful UX strategist. It offers a step-by-step process on how to analyze your product(s), potential customers, competitors, value proposition, etc. and create killer user experiences. And it does so with lots of solid info, clear examples, and no fluff. There's even a section at the end where she interviews several top UX strategists to get their take on UX and where things are going.

Clearly Jaime has a lot of experience in this field, both as a creator of user experiences and as a teacher, having taught for many years at both UCLA and USC, among other schools. Despite this she doesn't come off as some boring academic, but rather as a straight-talking, easy to follow coach who also motivates you about the topic. I think that much of what she has learned and taught over the years is offered in this book in a very well-written, clear and digestible fashion (it's also much cheaper than taking a class at USC). By the end of the book I felt like I could confidently give a lengthy talk on the subject, or go out and start seeking clients to aid with their UX development. I think just about anybody could read this book and walk away with the tools and know-how to become a successful UX strategist, everything you need is here.

About the Author
Cap’n Fatty Goodlander grew up aboard the 52-foot John G. Alden schooner “Elizabeth,” built in 1924. He salvaged, repaired, and skippered his first boat—a holed 16-foot rowing skiff he discovered awash in St. Petersburg, Florida—at eight years of age. At 15, he purchased ($200) the derelict 1932 Atkin-designed double-ender “Corina” in Chicago—aboard which he eloped with his wife Carolyn in 1970. At 19 years of age, he began building “Carlotta,” their 36-foot, 20,000 pound Endurance ketch in Boston. In 1989, at age 37, he salvaged his $3,000 Hughes 38 “Wild Card” after Hurricane Hugo—a heavily damaged vessel, which he and Carolyn then sailed twice around the world while raising their daughter Roma Orion. Cap’n Fatty has written ten marine-related books (see www.fattygoodlander.com) and is now on his 52nd year of living aboard. He is currently the editor-at-large of Cruising World magazine, and recently had a series of radio spots on NPR. He and his wife Carolyn are, as this publication goes to press, leisurely cruising the Mediterranean Sea while continuing to trade words-for-money.

A cruising book for the rest of us

I just read this book, practically in one sitting, and I enjoyed it immensely. Fatty Goodlander gives the average guy hope that he can live the cruising dream without winning the lotto. The book is straight forward, entertaining and, at times, brutally honest. I have read a number of books on cruising and what you need to cast off, but this book provides a recipe for putting it all together. If like me, sailing over the horizon is your dream, I recommend you give this book a read.

Fatty's Best Yet

I bought this book because I have enjoyed Fatty's other books, I have lived aboard and cruised on various boats for most of my life and wasn't expecting to get more then some laughs out of it but, not so. It is a fun read of course but it is full of great tips and ideas on maintenance. Things that would work on a gold plater too, our boat isn't that but we like to keep her looking good and thanks to Fatty we have a few short cuts. We got a few ideas on off shore preparation that we probably should have been doing all along too!!
I'm not sharing those tips in my review. I am sure that the crew of Wild Card needs to sell books to add to the cruising kitty so shell out the cash, you won't be sorry!

Highly Recommended by a Lifelong Vermonter

This series is extra special to me because it's set here in Vermont, and if possible I enjoyed this second book even more than the first! There's a plethora of mysteries going on, from the question of what happened to a Revolutionary War soldier during the Battle of Bennington, to the murder of local auto mechanic Harry Hodges, to the disappearance of Lucky's dear friend and second mother Elizabeth Dove. The question is...how is all the criminal activity surrounding Snowflake connected? Lucky discovers that even a town as picturesque as Snowflake in scenic Vermont has it's secrets.

This book takes place during the sweltering heat of August (yes, Vermont does have pretty brutal summers!), and I enjoyed how the Snowflake residents celebrated the season by putting on a Reenactment of the Battle of Bennington. Lucky and Elias are one of my favorite "cozy couples" and I'm really looking forward to watching their romance develop even further. I read the teaser for the next book in the series, A Roux of Revenge, and am excited to see it takes place in the fall, the most beautiful time of year in Vermont as far as I'm concerned!

This mystery is an action-packed page turner with memorable characters I look forward to revisiting again and again!

A Delicious Series

Broth of Betrayal is the second book in the a Soup Lover's Mystery series. A delightful addition, it is.

The folks of Snowflake, VT are excited about preparing for the Revolutionary War enactment in town, but are also upset by the imminent construction of a car wash in this quaint little town.

Harry Hodges has been helping to organize demonstration, hoping to get the site of car wash moved to another location. On the day of the demonstration some bones are uncovered as excavation begins and Hodges is found dead in his repair auto repair shop. Upon testing of bones that were found, it is determined that they date back to the Revolutionary War days. Then Richard Rowland, the owner of the proposed car wash, dies in fire of the construction site office trailer.

But, most discerning to Lucky is that Elizabeth, Mayor of Snowflake and a second mother to her, has gone missing.

Lucky begins to look into Elizabeth disappearance, while her father and his cronies from By The Spoonful start looking into Hodges and Rowland's murders.

A wonderful follow up to A Spoonful Of Murder. This is a great story with the enjoyable and believable characters from the first book back again. Maybe there is some romance in store for Lucky.

Will be looking for the next book.

A Cozy Full Of Drama!!!!

Snowflake, Vermont is picturesque town frequented by tourists from the nearby Snowflake Ski Resort during the winter season. Off season it is home to year round residents, many who own businesses supported by the tourists. But there is a new business trying to open and none of the residents are happy. An ugly car wash has been approved by the town council and the people are protesting with a march in front of the site. Then all of the sudden the digging stops, it seems they have uncovered a skeleton that may date back to the Revolutionary War.

The town is then shaken by two more discoveries. Local mechanic, Harry Hodges, has been found dead in his shop and the mayor of the town, Lucky's friend, Elizabeth has gone missing. Lucky plans to use her noodle to find her friend and the killer no matter how much trouble she stirs up.

Dollycas's Thoughts

This book is full of wonderful mysteries, a skeleton discovered, a missing person, and a murder. The pages flew by.

Archer has created such lively characters. Lucky is a strong protagonist who doesn't mind finding herself "in the soup" as she tries to save her friend or catch a killer. Her romance with her middle school crush, Dr. Elias Scott is progressing nicely. My favorite character is Lucky's grandfather Jack, a retired Navy man who still tells time according to bells. He is devoted to his granddaughter and truly her right arm as she runs the business left to her by her parents.

I found the historical element in this story very interesting. Bodies hastily buried during the Revolutionary War being found today like this one can have a very eventful story when researched. The reenactment of The Battle of Bennington was a great way to tie this element together in this town to with a sultry summer activity.

I was also intrigued by the story that evolves as historic towns try to stay true to the historic quality and feeling as modern needs try to fit in. The car wash may have not been so bad with a few architectural elements to help in blend in with the surrounding businesses.

After reading the first book in this series, A Spoonful of Murder, I knew the author had a "souper" idea for her cozy series and that her stories would be filled with drama. She exceeded my expectations with this installment. I liked it even better than the last. She gives us a taste of the next story, A Roux of Revenge, and she has definitely whetted by appetite for more. My next visit to Snowflake cannot come soon enough!

A Bad Textbook

This book was required for my Web Design/Construction class and it has proved frustrating. A good textbook provides chapter by chapter information explaining the processes to accomplish a task with examples scattered through it to provide context to the more abstract ideals. By taking notes and studying, by the time you reach the end of a chapter, you can have a firm enough understanding to try some problems or challenges on the subject matter and easily refer back to the chapter should you get stuck. This book ISN'T like that. This book gives you vague page per chapter on what it's about, then about 2 vague paragraphs of information every two pages after that. The rest of the chapter is just step by step instructions on how to build webpages, which in theory would be helpful, except context for each step is rarely provided. Step after step will literally give instructions like "Click before the >, press [Spacebar], then type 'blah blah blah.'" No context. Nothing to tell me what exactly that step just did so I can recreate similar results later. In fact, between the "content" of each chapter and the example problems at the end of each chapter, which are more vague, the majority of the book is just step by step instructions. The most useful thing about it reference-wise is the glossary and appendix at the back, which you could affectively find at w3. Not even the pictures are that useful, as the code in them is written in notepad and often takes less than a quarter of the page. Then the book will tell you to type out the code in said images and it becomes a tedious game of "Compare One Block of Generic and Ill-Formatted Text to the Other." I rarely write customer reviews but this book was bad enough that I felt I had to say something. I would never recommend it.

Outdated too soon

I had an online class through school and we were assigned a specific problems from this book. The book itself is asking you to do things or telling you to go to locations that are either moved or completely changed so it becomes very irrelevant.

It doesn't teach you how to code really.... More like how to follow directions. The photos of the codes that you have to copy are very small and often hard to follow. Not the best book for beginners.
